Internship

Hi, my name is Katie Burke. I am from a town in close proximity to Boston, Mass. I’m a student at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. I plan to graduate with my BA degree in English Communications with a Marketing minor in 2023. I’m also working towards getting my master’s degree in Innovation and Strategic Management. This semester I was granted the opportunity to intern with The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce, where I learned many skills that will assist me in my professional career. Alongside my supervisor, I ran the Instagram and Facebook accounts for The Chamber. I also assisted in event planning by coming up with ideas, organizing and collecting materials, as well as having the opportunity to attend and work these events. My favorite event I attended was the Annual Holiday Silent Auction at Newport Vineyards at the beginning of December 2022. The office members and I all put in so much work to make this event happen and succeed. For this event specifically, I posted on social media to remind people about the annual event, collected auction items all around Newport and surrounding towns, organized an Excel spreadsheet in which I updated daily, as well as helped set up the event and worked alongside my coworkers.
